Biography:Thiruchelvi pursued her undergraduate degree in Microbiology at School of Biological Sciences, USM, then continued her Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Technology at School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USM. Her Master’s research was on investigating antimicrobial resistance of clinical MRSA strains from Penang GH. Later, she went on to work as a Research Assistant at Faculty of Medicine, UM for 12 months. Here, she received the opportunity to work with clinical strains of Burkholderia pseudomallei and studied their host-pathogen characteristics. She pursued her passion in Microbiology by continuing her PhD research in antibacterial properties of graphene oxide, a nanomaterial, towards Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria at University of Malaya. Currently, she is waiting for her viva and joined the Ecobiomaterial Research Laboratory, USM as a research officer. She is now involved in the soil microbiome analysis of oil palm plantations in Malaysia.
