Ong Su Yean
Level/Position: Ph.D student
Latest Working Experience: Research Officer at Centre for Chemical Biology (CCB)
Research Title: Changes in microbial community and soil properties due to degradation of PHA
Biography: Su Yean obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in the field of Biotechnology. She worked for 2 years in CCB and was mainly involved in the construction and analysis of biological pathway and network in plant and bacteria as well as in DNA sequencing. To date, she has published three research papers in genomic studies and one paper in integrative bioinformatics. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D degree under the supervision of Prof. Sudesh Kumar. Her research focuses on the effect of PHA degradation towards the changes in microbial properties and soil properties. The knowledge of PHA degradation will then be applied for the formulation of PHA into controlled-release fertilizer towards the growth of oil palm seedlings.
