Research Title: Characterization and Properties of Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and Kenaf Composites
Biography: Lee Joyyi obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Industrial Chemistry from School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in year 2014. She completed her undergraduate’s Final Year Project in Ecobiomaterial Laboratory under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Mohamad Abu Bakar from School of Chemical Sciences, USM and Prof. Dr. K. Sudesh Kumar. Seeing the potential of the bioplastics as one of the good substitute to the non-degradable conventional plastics, she decided to continue as a postgraduate student with her passion and enthusiasm in the field of material sciences using PHA. Having Prof. Dr. K. Sudesh Kumar as the main supervisor and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Zainal Arifin Mohd Ishak from School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, USM, she is working on producing green composite from PHA and kenaf plant (Hibiscus cannabinus) fibers. Despite her undergraduate background, she is showing keen interest in biology and has been practicing on microbiological skills including the fermentation technique. The cross disciplinary project also provides exposure to her in polymer processing and material characterization.
